Created by: Hannah Romell and Hank Ball

Director: Hannah Romell

Vulgar Bath is an immersive and interactive installation centering on the five stages of grief through a lens of the grotesque. This piece highlights the importance of leaning in to the discomfort of grief as an act of healing.

The installation is comprised of multiple CRT TVs showcasing footage that corresponds to different stages of grief, as well as a phone booth where members of the public can answer questions regarding their own experiences with grief. The videos are accompanied by electronic music composed by Hannah Romell, as well as the phone booth recordings.

This installation was selected for Best Spatial Installation in the Emerging Media Arts Achievement Awards for 2025.
